Super Mario Bros. is built around running momentum, precise jumps, and quickly readable obstacles. Early stages quietly teach how blocks, enemies, power-ups, pipes, and hidden routes behave. Later worlds recombine those ideas at a faster pace, asking the player to control speed while planning where each jump should begin and end.
Few games have influenced level design as directly. Its first stage became a model for teaching through play, and its compact rules created a shared language for platform games that followed.
